What the Keyword Gap checks
List the Google keywords a competitor ranks for on the first two pages that your site does not rank for, sorted into blog topics and keywords worth bidding on.
- Keywords a competitor ranks for in the top 20 of Google that your site does not rank for at all
- The 300 most searched keywords you are missing, in the country you choose
- The easiest keywords to win, by difficulty, with search volume and search intent
- Blog topics and keywords worth bidding on in Google Ads, with cost per click
- The competitor pages that win the most gap keywords
What it does not do
- Keywords both sites rank for, where you rank lower
- Keywords the competitor ranks below position 20 for
- Keywords ranked outside the country you choose
- Exact traffic; searches and difficulty are estimates
- Keywords a competitor bids on in Google Ads
Questions about the Keyword Gap
- What is a keyword gap?
- A keyword gap is a keyword a competitor ranks for in Google that your site does not rank for. This tool lists the ones where the competitor is on the first two pages, so each one already sends it visits.
- Why are some keywords missing from my list?
- The lookup returns the 300 most searched keywords you are missing, then drops those where the competitor ranks below position 20. Keywords with few searches, and keywords where you already rank, are not listed.
- How do I pick which gap keywords to write about?
- Start with the easiest keywords list: low difficulty, many searches, and a learning or comparing intent. The blog topics list adds the informational searches with a difficulty of 50 or less, and leaves out searches for the competitor's own name.
- Does it show keywords where we both rank?
- No. It lists only keywords where your site does not rank. To see everything a competitor ranks for, including keywords you also rank for, use the Competitor Keywords tool.
- What happens if no gap is found?
- A lookup that compares both sites but finds no keyword you miss in the competitor's top 20 is still charged, because the data provider charges for it, and the report says so. A lookup for which the provider has no record of the pair is refunded.
- How much does the Keyword Gap cost?
- 85 credits per run, shown before the run starts. An AI agent can run the same tool over the REST API or MCP with a workspace API key.
