The best AI SEO tools, picked by the job you need done

·4 min read

AI SEO tools come in two kinds. Some use AI to do SEO work, such as writing drafts, grouping keywords or editing your site's code. Others measure how your brand shows up in AI search, in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews. The best AI SEO tools for you depend on which job you have, so pick by job, not by the longest feature list.

What counts as an AI SEO tool?

An AI SEO tool is any product that either applies a language model to SEO tasks or reports on AI search results. The two halves need different questions before you buy.

AI for SEO work AI search visibility
What it does Drafts, briefs, clusters, code changes Samples AI answers for mentions and citations
Question to ask Who checks the output before it ships? Which engines, which prompts, how often?
Typical failure Unchecked facts, thin pages at volume Small prompt samples read as market share

If the second column is what you are after, our posts on GEO tools, AEO tools and LLM visibility tools go deeper on each.

AI tools for SEO work

AI is good at the tedious middle of SEO, where a human still decides what ships.

Writing and briefs. Surfer pitches an optimized content editor alongside AI visibility tracking and an SEO audit, per its home page. Keyword Insights says it turns each keyword cluster into a brief and drafts content with an "AI Writer Agent", per its site.

Clustering. Keyword Insights groups keywords by SERP similarity, meaning two keywords land together when Google shows them similar results.

Coding agents. Claude Code takes a bug fix or a migration and works through it from your terminal, IDE, Slack or the web, per Anthropic's product page. For SEO that means fixing a robots.txt rule, adding JSON-LD to templates or rewriting redirects across a codebase. Pair it with tools that check the result, because the agent cannot see what Google sees.

Where AI helps SEO and where it creates risk

AI helps when it speeds up work you would check anyway, and it creates risk when it replaces the checking. Google does not penalize AI text as such. Its spam policies do name scaled content abuse, which includes using generative AI to produce many pages that add nothing for users. The policy applies whether a model, a person or both made the pages.

The practical line is easy to draw. A model grouping 2,000 keywords, drafting schema you then validate, or proposing title rewrites you approve one by one is fine. A model publishing 300 near-identical city pages is the pattern the policy describes. Our guide to AI SEO covers Google's guidance on AI-written content in more detail.

Visibility tools ask AI engines questions and record whether your brand is named or your pages are cited. They differ mainly in which engines they cover and whether they track over time.

  • Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit lists daily tracking for chosen prompts, sentiment compared with competitors, prompt research and a site audit for issues that block AI crawlers.
  • OtterlyAI says it monitors brand mentions and citations across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Copilot and Claude.
  • Google Search Console's Generative AI performance report opened to all sites on August 31, 2026. It shows impressions only, by page, country, device and date, with AI Overviews and AI Mode combined. It is the only first-party Google number you will get.

Treat any visibility score with care. AI answers change from one run to the next, so a handful of prompts is a sample, not a measurement of your market.

The best AI SEO tools by job

Match the tool to the job and skip the rest. Features change often, so check each vendor's own page before you buy. We checked these in October 2026.

Job Where to start

Run AI SEO checks from seogeoaeo.ai or your agent

Our tools catalog has 51 tools across SEO, AEO and GEO, and each one runs on its own and costs credits per run. A few match the jobs above. AI Answer Visibility asks ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini one question with web search on and reports whether each answer names your brand, cites your site and which brands it names instead, for 120 credits. It samples once and does not track over time or cover Google AI Overviews. AI Citation Finder lists up to 25 pages that Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT cite for a topic or a site, for 160 credits, but only for questions its data source already tracks. The Keyword Clusterer groups a pasted list by shared words and suggests a parent page path, for 3 credits. It uses no language model and no SERP data, so it is a quick first pass, not intent clustering.

Every tool also runs from AI agents. Connect Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any MCP client with a workspace API key, or call the REST API. Your agent can then fix code and rerun the check that confirms the fix, with a credit cap per run.
