8 best AthenaHQ alternatives in 2026

Updated ·12 min read

AthenaHQ Starter costs $295 a month for 3,600 credits, and an answer from Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI or Mistral costs 5 of them. That covers about 20 prompts a day on the six cheaper engines. Most people who look for an AthenaHQ alternative want more answers for the money, or a way in for less than $295.

Facts here come from AthenaHQ's pricing page, credit calculator and docs, and from other vendors' own pages, in US dollars, as of October 2026. Engine lists and limits change often, so confirm on the vendor's site before you buy.

1. seogeoaeo.ai

Best for: a founder, marketer or AI agent who checks what AI answers say when a page ships or a launch goes out, not on a schedule.

AI Answer Visibility asks ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini one question of up to 300 characters, with web search on. For each engine it reports:

  • whether the answer names your brand, and in what place among the brands it names
  • whether it cites your site, and which URLs
  • up to 10 other brands and 10 other domains the answers named and cited
  • the full answer, so you can read what each engine said

A run costs 120 credits. Plans start at $29 a month for 2,000 credits, enough for 16 runs, with every tool in the browser and through MCP or REST.

Why teams choose seogeoaeo.ai

A run of one question on three engines costs under $2 on the $29 plan, and you pay only when you ask. On AthenaHQ Starter, the credits spend on a schedule whether or not anything changed that week.

The same credits pay for the tools that explain an answer:

  • AI Question Finder, 160 credits, lists the 25 most searched questions Google's AI Overviews or ChatGPT answer about a topic, with monthly searches. It does a job close to AthenaHQ's prompt volume estimates, once, when you choose prompts. A lookup that finds no records is refunded.
  • Brand Narrative Check, 150 credits, asks the three engines what your brand is. It shows each engine's description, tone, strengths, weaknesses and the alternatives it names, with the sources it cited, and flags claims that may not match your home page.
  • AI Bot Log Analyzer, 8 credits, reads a server or CDN access log you paste in. It shows which AI crawlers and assistants visit, which pages they read and which requests failed. AthenaHQ's plans don't list AI crawler logs.

Every plan includes MCP and REST, where AthenaHQ sells its API as an add-on on Starter. A coding agent such as Claude Code or Cursor can run a check after it ships a page and read the result itself. The agents page has the setup. A run that fails, for example because no engine answered, is refunded.

seogeoaeo.ai vs AthenaHQ

Feature seogeoaeo.ai AthenaHQ
Entry price $29 a month for 2,000 credits $295 a month, or $245 billed annually
Trying it Smallest plan Essential, 300 credits on 5 engines at no cost
How you pay Credits per run Credits per answer, on a schedule
Engines ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini 11 models on Starter
Claude, Grok, DeepSeek No Yes, at 5 credits an answer
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode No Yes
Scheduled tracking No Yes, one schedule for all prompts on Starter
Prompt volumes AI Question Finder, 160 credits a lookup Estimates included on Starter
Content optimization agent No Yes
Crawler visits Log you paste in, 8 credits Not listed on its plans
API and MCP Both on every plan API is a paid add-on; MCP server documented

You give up tracking over time and model coverage. AI Answer Visibility takes one answer per engine, covers three engines, and doesn't include Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Claude or Grok. It doesn't chart answers week by week, and we have no content agent or Shopify and Webflow connections. If you need Claude, Grok and DeepSeek tracked next to ChatGPT, AthenaHQ covers them on its entry plan and we don't.

2. Rankscale

Best for: the same credit model as AthenaHQ, with cheaper answers and every engine on every plan.

Rankscale Pro costs $99 a month for 1,200 credits. A credit costs about the same as AthenaHQ's, but an answer from ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode or AI Overviews costs 0.25 credits instead of 1. That's about 2 cents an answer against 8. Claude costs 2 credits in Rankscale's calculator, or 1 to 4 depending on the model and web search, against 5 on AthenaHQ.

  • Strengths: every engine on every plan. Unused credits roll over on Pro, up to twice the monthly amount, and each prompt can have its own schedule, which AthenaHQ keeps for Enterprise. Its MCP server works on every plan.
  • Weaknesses: the REST API starts at Pro+, $229 a month. Claude's cost depends on the model and web search, so budgeting takes the calculator.
  • Pricing: from $99 a month.

Our Rankscale guide works out how far the credits go.

3. SE Visible

Best for: the most daily prompts on a fixed plan.

SE Visible, SE Ranking's AI tracker, costs $99 a month, or $79 billed annually, for 200 prompts checked daily on ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode, Perplexity and AI Overviews. SE Visible puts that at about 30,000 answers a month, against at most 3,600 on AthenaHQ Starter.

  • Strengths: about eight times AthenaHQ Starter's answers for a third of the price, on the five engines most people track.
  • Weaknesses: it doesn't cover Claude, Grok or DeepSeek, and its API is in beta.
  • Pricing: from $99 a month, with a 10-day trial.

4. OtterlyAI

Best for: the smallest monthly budget for daily tracking.

OtterlyAI Lite costs $29 a month, or $25 billed annually, for 15 prompts run daily on ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot.

  • Strengths: a tenth of AthenaHQ's entry price for daily runs on four engines.
  • Weaknesses: 15 prompts is a small set. API and MCP start at Standard, $189 a month for 100 prompts.
  • Pricing: from $29 a month.

Our OtterlyAI alternatives guide covers its plans.

5. Peec AI

Best for: daily tracking of a mid-sized prompt set for about a third of AthenaHQ's price.

Peec AI Starter costs $95 a month, or $80 billed annually, for 50 prompts run daily on 3 models you choose.

  • Strengths: 50 daily prompts, and an MCP server.
  • Weaknesses: 3 models on Starter, against AthenaHQ's 11. Its pricing page lists API access under Enterprise.
  • Pricing: from $95 a month.

Our Peec AI alternatives guide compares it with the trackers here.

6. MentionChecker

Best for: checks every few weeks, with no subscription.

MentionChecker sells credit packs with no subscription. One credit is one answer, and credits last 12 months. The 100-credit pack costs $17.

  • Strengths: nothing renews, and unused credits keep for a year.
  • Weaknesses: one credit buys one answer, so a large prompt set checked often uses packs quickly.
  • Pricing: $17 for 100 credits.

7. Scrunch

Best for: a platform at AthenaHQ's price that includes AI crawler traffic.

Scrunch Core costs $250 a month for 125 prompts and 5,000 answers a month on ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews and Copilot, with 5 seats and AI crawler traffic.

  • Strengths: crawler traffic on the entry plan, which AthenaHQ's plans don't list. Scrunch's docs say its MCP server works on any plan.
  • Weaknesses: 4 engines against AthenaHQ's 11, and 5 seats where AthenaHQ has unlimited seats.
  • Pricing: from $250 a month.

Our Scrunch AI alternatives guide covers its plans.

8. Goodie

Best for: a team that wants daily tracking and content agents from one vendor.

Goodie Core costs $295 a month billed annually, or $354 otherwise, for 110 prompts run daily on 5 engines, with agents that draft content.

  • Strengths: 110 prompts every day, where AthenaHQ's credits cover about 20 a day on the cheaper engines.
  • Weaknesses: 5 engines against 11, and its MCP server is read-only.
  • Pricing: from $295 a month, billed annually.

Profound sits in the same group and quotes Enterprise after a demo. Our guides to Goodie AI and Profound alternatives compare that group.

AthenaHQ pricing, and when it's still the right choice

AthenaHQ tracks how ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google's AI features, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok and other models mention and cite a brand, and adds content and optimization agents.

Plan Monthly Billed annually, per month Credits Models Countries and languages
Essential No cost No cost 300 5 Not stated
Starter $295 $245 3,600 a month 11 Single
Enterprise Custom Custom Custom 11 Multiple

Essential covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot, with no CSV export or API, and the page doesn't say whether its 300 credits renew. There is no trial of Starter, so Essential is the way to try AthenaHQ.

Starter has unlimited topics, prompts, competitors and seats, CSV export, prompt volume estimates and a content optimization agent, and connects to Google Analytics, Search Console, Shopify and Webflow. Extra credits and API access are paid add-ons on Starter, and AthenaHQ doesn't publish their prices. Enterprise adds multiple countries and languages, the API, SAML SSO, audit logs, a 2-hour SLA and a feature AthenaHQ calls the Athena Citation Engine. AthenaHQ's docs say unused credits don't roll over. Its terms say payments aren't refundable, plans renew automatically and prices exclude tax.

What a credit buys

The pricing table says "1 credit = 1 AI response". The credit calculator is more precise:

Engine Credits an answer Cost an answer on Starter, monthly
ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, AI Overviews, AI Mode 1 About 8 cents
Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI, Mistral 5 About 41 cents

Running a prompt once on all 11 models costs 31 credits. Prompt expansion, which adds three variations of each prompt, counts four times, and each persona and location you add multiplies the cost again. Content generation, backfills of past data and product catalog optimization spend credits too. Here is how far Starter goes:

  • Daily on the six 1-credit engines: about 20 prompts.
  • Weekly on all 11 models: about 26 prompts.
  • Daily on the six 1-credit engines with prompt expansion on: about 5 prompts.

AthenaHQ's own calculator opens on 50 prompts run 3 days a week on 7 models, which needs about 7,145 credits a month, nearly twice what Starter includes. Its services agreement says usage over your allowance is invoiced afterwards, so set the schedule before you add prompts.

You pick the models and a schedule: chosen days of the week, repeated every 1 to 4 weeks, or monthly. Starter has one schedule for all prompts. Separate schedules, such as daily runs for a few key prompts and weekly runs for the rest, are an Enterprise feature, per AthenaHQ's setup guide. Its docs say Claude, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral are called through their APIs, with no country setting, and don't say how the other engines are read. A run is a sample either way, as why ChatGPT gives different answers explains.

Where AthenaHQ's pages disagree

The pricing table says one credit buys one answer, while the calculator charges 5 for five of the 11 models. The table also says "Unlimited" prompts, though every run spends credits. It sells API access on Starter as an add-on, while another AthenaHQ page calls the API "exclusively for Enterprise accounts as an add-on". The docs don't say whether the MCP server needs the API add-on. The table lists role-based access control on Starter, while the setup guide offers two roles, Admin or Viewer. Ask for the API terms and the credit costs in writing.

Who should stay with AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ puts 11 models on its entry plan. Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral sit next to ChatGPT and Google's features, where Goodie and Scrunch keep most of them for enterprise plans and OtterlyAI and Peec sell them as add-ons. Unlimited seats mean a team doesn't pay per person. Prompt volume estimates show roughly how often people ask each prompt, and the content agent, Shopify and Webflow connections and GA4 and Search Console data put tracking, content and traffic in one place.

The API allows 60 requests a minute. The MCP server connects to Claude and ChatGPT with OAuth, and its tools can create and change prompts as well as read results. AthenaHQ reports SOC 2 Type II as of June 2026.

Stay with AthenaHQ if you need those five extra models tracked on a self-serve plan, with unlimited seats, content tools and a SOC 2 Type II report for the security review. It's a weaker fit if you need many prompts checked daily, separate schedules or more than one country without moving to Enterprise.
