Twitter advanced search for tech job posts: operators and queries
If you know Google operators, you already know most of X search. Here is how to point it at hiring posts.

Twitter advanced search lives at x.com/search-advanced once you are signed in, and its operators work much like Google's: quotes for exact phrases, a minus sign to exclude, and prefixes such as from:, since: and filter:. If you use it to find tech jobs, pair it with a feed of the right accounts; the free TechTwitter IO who-to-follow list is a quick way to build one.
Anyone who has written a site: query will feel at home. Here are eight queries for tech job posts, from broad to narrow.
The operators you need
| Operator | What it does |
|---|---|
"exact phrase" |
Matches the words in that order |
OR |
Matches either term |
-word |
Drops posts containing the word |
from:handle |
Posts by one account |
since: / until: |
Date range, written YYYY-MM-DD |
filter:links |
Only posts with a link |
-filter:replies |
Hides replies |
min_faves: |
Minimum number of likes |
list: |
Posts from members of a list |
On the mobile app the full form is often missing, so type the operators into the search bar instead. Switch to the Latest tab for job hunting, since Top can surface older popular posts first.
Operators combine freely, and parentheses keep an OR group from spilling into the rest of the query. Save a query you run often by bookmarking its results URL, which keeps the whole string.
Eight queries for tech job posts
- The baseline.
"we're hiring" engineer since:2026-10-01. Fresh posts that use the most common phrase. - Two phrasings at once.
("we're hiring" OR "join our team") developer. Founders word it differently, so cover both. - Original posts only.
hiring "product designer" -filter:replies -filter:retweets. Removes the reply chains under viral threads. - Posts with an application link.
hiring backend filter:links. Useful when you want something you can act on today. - Drop the noise.
hiring engineer -crypto -"DM for promo". Add any word that keeps polluting your results. - A specific company's people.
hiring from:handle. Run it for the founder, the CTO and a few engineers at a company you like. - Posts with traction.
"we're hiring" "machine learning" min_faves:50. More likes often means the post is real and getting seen. - Your own list.
hiring list:yourlistid. Build an X list of founders and engineers, then search only inside it.
Build the list that query 8 needs
Query 8 is the most useful once you have a good list. TechTwitter IO groups real accounts by field, including Founders and investors, Builders and indie hackers, and Engineers. Add the ones that fit your target role to a private X list. Garry Tan, president and CEO of Y Combinator, and Amjad Masad, CEO of Replit, are two from the founders group.
Limits to know
X search finds posts, not people with open roles. It gets less reliable for older posts and has no export. For a broad sweep of listings with salary filters, a job board does that better; X search is for the roles that only exist as a post.
A side note on the paper
TechTwitter IO also publishes a free satirical daily paper about tech Twitter. Its Classifieds section has a Help Wanted column, and every ad in it is a joke. Read it for the laughs and the daily puzzles, and run your real job searches on X.
