Broken link checker: find dead internal links on any page

What the seogeoaeo.ai Broken Internal Link Finder checks, what it leaves out, and how to fix what it finds.

A broken link checker requests the URLs your links point to and tells you which ones fail. The seogeoaeo.ai Broken Internal Link Finder does this for one page at a time: give it a URL, and it reports which same-site links on that page return a 4xx or 5xx error, for 15 credits a run.

That narrow scope is on purpose. Most broken link problems show up on a handful of pages that matter, such as a pricing page, a popular guide or a navigation menu, and a single-page check answers the question quickly.

What the checker looks at

You enter one public URL. The tool reads the page, collects the links that point to the same host, and checks up to 30 of them. Links in the main content are checked before navigation links, because a dead link inside an article is usually the one a reader actually clicks.

Each checked link comes back with its status. Anything in the 4xx range (such as 404 Not Found or 410 Gone) or the 5xx range (server errors) is flagged as broken.

What it does not do

It helps to know the limits before you rely on the result.

Question Broken Internal Link Finder
Checks links on one page Yes
Checks links to the same host Yes
Checks links to other sites No
Crawls the whole site No
Sees links added by JavaScript No
Finds orphan pages or link opportunities No

If you need more than one page, seogeoaeo.ai has two related tools. The Orphan Page Finder crawls from your homepage and also reports broken internal links along the way. The HTTP Status Bulk Checker takes a pasted list of URLs and returns the status, redirect target and timing of each one.

How to fix what it finds

Broken internal links send visitors and crawlers to dead ends, and the link itself stops doing any work. There are two clean fixes:

  1. Update the link. If the page moved, point the link at its current URL. This is the better fix for links you control.
  2. Redirect the old URL. If many pages link to the old address, or other sites do, add a redirect from the old URL to the new one.

After you deploy, run the check again on the same page. The tool only reads public URLs, so it sees the fix once it is live.

When to run it

A few moments are worth a check:

  • After you rename or delete a page that other pages link to.
  • After a redesign that changes menus or URL patterns.
  • Before you promote a page, so new visitors do not hit a dead end.
  • When Search Console starts listing new 404 pages.

When another tool fits better

If you want a full crawl of a large site with every external link included, a desktop crawler or a site audit suite will cover more ground than a single-page check. For the common job of confirming that one important page has no dead internal links, the seogeoaeo.ai checker is quicker and you pay per run. You can run the Broken Internal Link Finder here, or call it from an AI agent over the REST API or MCP.
