Answer engine optimization, one page at a time: a method with checks
Pick pages that already rank, give each question a heading and a short lead answer, then check markup, dates and the byline before you measure.

Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the work of making a page easy for Google, Bing and AI assistants to lift a passage from and show it as the answer to a question. In practice that means one question per section, a direct answer in the opening sentence, markup that matches the page, and a clear author and date. The AEO tools on seogeoaeo.ai check each of those jobs one run at a time.
Know Google's position before you start. Its guide to generative AI features says optimizing for AI search is "still SEO", and that no third-party tool has access to its ranking or AI systems. So treat AEO as a layer on a page that already works in search, and treat every score as an editing aid.
Step 1: pick pages the engine already trusts
Begin with pages that already reach the first results page for question searches. Google says a page must be indexed and allowed to show a snippet before it can appear as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and a nosnippet rule keeps it out of featured snippets however good the writing is.
Check: the Indexing & Canonical Checker (8 credits) reports whether Google and Bing may crawl, index and quote the page, and names the tag or header that stops them.
Step 2: collect the questions in the searcher's words
Use the phrasing people type, not your internal labels. Autocomplete, People Also Ask boxes and support tickets all help.
Check: the Question Finder (15 credits) gathers Google autocomplete questions for a topic, sorts them by intent and, given a URL, shows which ones the page answers or skips. It does not read People Also Ask.
Step 3: one heading, one answer
Put each question, or a close version of it, in an H2 or H3. Make the first sentence under it a full answer that still reads correctly when quoted on its own, then add the figure or exception that makes it useful.
Check: the Citability Analyzer (5 credits, filed under the GEO tools) points out sections with no short lead answer, passages that lean on earlier context, and claims with nothing behind them. Its rules are tuned for English, and its score does not predict citations.
Step 4: give each answer its natural shape
| Answer type | Format that extracts cleanly |
|---|---|
| Definition | One or two plain sentences |
| Process | A numbered list in real HTML |
| Comparison | A table with labeled columns |
| Yes or no | The verdict first, then the condition |
Step 5: markup that matches what readers see
Google says no special schema is needed for AI Overviews or AI Mode, and it stopped showing FAQ rich results for every site from May 7, 2026. Add markup to describe the page accurately, not as a ranking trick.
Check: the Schema Markup Checker (8 credits) catches JSON-LD that will not parse, required or recommended properties left out, and schema types the page could add. The schema builders cost 3 credits a run and write JSON-LD from fields you type in, without fetching anything.
Step 6: a named author and honest dates
Show a byline linked to a real author page, and keep the visible updated date in line with dateModified. Change the date when the facts change, not to look fresh.
Check: the Content Freshness Checker (5 credits) spots missing or clashing date signals, and the Author & E-E-A-T Checker (8 credits) follows the byline to the author page and publisher.
Step 7: measure where answers are counted
Search Console's Generative AI performance report, open to every site since August 31, 2026, shows AI Overviews and AI Mode impressions by page, country and device. Bing Webmaster Tools added an AI Performance report in public preview in February 2026 that counts citations in Copilot and Bing's AI summaries. After each edit goes live, rerun the same seogeoaeo.ai check.
Where seogeoaeo.ai stops
It checks pages when you ask and does not track AI answers day by day; for a daily log of which prompts name your brand, a tracking product suits better. For fixing the page itself, start with the free home page preview in the seogeoaeo.ai website check.
